By May 2018, businesses must have established GDPR-compliant policies to process personal data. The GDPR will transform how personal data is collected, shared and used globally, and has been described by experts as ambitious, complex and strict. All organisations will have changes to make in policy, processes and contracts, as well as in technical and organisational compliance measures. In some instances, those changes could be complex and significant. The penalty for ignoring GDPR and its obligations is a potential fine of up to EUR 20 million or up to four percent of global annual turnover, whichever is the greater, for failure to comply.
